CARDIOVASCULAR RISK
10-Year Risk Assessment Using the Hisayama Score
We use age, blood pressure, cholesterol, smoking and glucose status to discuss the estimated 10-year risk of coronary disease and atherothrombotic stroke.
Clinic-developed decision support based on the Japan Atherosclerosis Society guideline; not an official society applicationInformation used
- Age 40–79 years
- Sex
- Systolic blood pressure
- Glucose abnormality
- LDL and HDL cholesterol
- Smoking status
What the report shows
- Points and age-specific 10-year absolute risk
- Low, intermediate or high management category
- Targets for LDL-C, non-HDL-C, triglycerides and HDL-C
- A patient-friendly management and follow-up plan
Important limitation
The score is mainly intended for an initial assessment before treatment. Recalculating with treated blood pressure or LDL-C may make risk look lower; the original management category should not be reduced automatically.
Risk conditions outside the score
Previous coronary disease or atherothrombotic stroke requires secondary prevention. Diabetes, chronic kidney disease or peripheral arterial disease is treated as high risk. The score never replaces individual medical judgment.
