RESEARCH INFORMATION
Research Use and Opt-out Notices
When an approved study is eligible for opt-out rather than individual consent, we publish a separate notice describing that study and how to decline participation.
What each notice must contain
- Study name and purpose
- Who is included
- Information used and period of use
- Who will use the information and who is responsible
- How and by when to decline
- A statement that declining will not disadvantage medical care
What opt-out does not mean
A general opt-out page is not blanket permission for all uses of medical data. Ethics review, clinic authorization, consent and records required under applicable rules remain separate requirements.
Public aggregate statistics
Published aggregate statistics contain no direct identifiers. Once a fully anonymized aggregate is finalized without a remaining link to an individual, a single person's data may no longer be removable from that aggregate.
